Trip Overview
The Everest Base Camp Trek is a remarkable high-altitude journey through Nepal's Khumbu Region, leading to the base of Mount Everest, the world's highest mountain at 8,848.86 metres. This carefully planned 17-day itinerary combines Himalayan scenery, Sherpa culture, traditional mountain villages, Buddhist heritage, and two essential acclimatization days.
The journey begins in Kathmandu, then continues by road to Manthali, the departure point for the flight to Lukla. Weather permitting, the short Lukla flight provides an impressive introduction to the mountains. From Lukla, the walking route descends towards Phakding and then follows the Dudh Koshi River through forests and villages, over suspension bridges.
The trail enters Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its dramatic landscapes, rich biodiversity, and cultural importance. A demanding ascent leads to Namche Bazaar, the commercial and cultural centre of the Everest Region.
Two nights in Namche provide time for gradual altitude adjustment. During the acclimatization day, trekkers hike to the Everest View Point and explore Namche Bazaar. On a clear day, the viewpoint offers early views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and surrounding peaks.
This itinerary also includes an overnight stay in Khumjung Village. Located at 3,790 metres, Khumjung provides a closer introduction to traditional Sherpa culture and mountain life. The trail then continues through the Tengboche region, known for Tengboche Monastery and its views of Ama Dablam, before reaching Pangboche.
Beyond Pangboche, the landscape becomes increasingly open and alpine. Trekkers enter the Imja Valley and reach Dingboche, where a second acclimatization day is scheduled. A hike towards Nangkartshang Peak helps the body adapt before the route continues towards Lobuche and Gorakshep.
The primary trekking objective is Everest Base Camp at 5,364 metres, located beside the Khumbu Glacier. The following morning, trekkers climb Kala Patthar at 5,645 metres, the highest point of the journey and one of the region's best viewpoints for Mount Everest.
The return route descends through Pheriche and Namche Bazaar before reaching Lukla. Subject to suitable weather, the group then flies to Manthali and returns to Kathmandu by road.
Hatti Hatti Treks arranges the permits, accommodation, trekking meals, guide support, porter service, domestic flights, and essential logistics included in the package, subject to the confirmed baggage allowance.

Common Questions
FAQs
This is a 17-day trek, including arrival in Kathmandu, travel to Manthali, the trek from Lukla to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar, the return to Lukla and Manthali, a free day in Kathmandu, and final departure.
The highest point is Kala Patthar at 5,645 metres. Everest Base Camp itself sits at 5,364 metres.
The summit is not clearly visible from base camp because surrounding mountains partially obstruct it. Kala Patthar provides a clearer panoramic view of Everest and neighbouring peaks.
A physically prepared beginner may complete the trek, although previous multi-day hiking experience is beneficial. Trekkers must be comfortable with long walking days, cold conditions, basic accommodation, and significant altitude.
No technical climbing is required. However, rocky terrain, snow, ice, steep sections, and changing weather can make the route more difficult.
The package includes two nights of hotel accommodation in Kathmandu, hotel accommodation in Manthali, and teahouse accommodation during the trek, with breakfast, lunch and dinner provided throughout the Manthali stay and trekking section. The Day 16 free day is not included.
The package includes the Sagarmatha National Park entry permit, the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Trek-Card/local entry permit, and the TIMS Card.
Inform the trekking guide immediately if you experience symptoms. Depending on their severity, the guide may recommend rest, a change to the itinerary, or descent. Serious symptoms may require emergency evacuation.
The flight may be rescheduled when conditions improve. Delays can create additional accommodation, meal, and transport expenses, which are excluded unless otherwise agreed.
Yes. Your insurance must cover high-altitude trekking up to at least 5,645 metres and emergency helicopter evacuation.
